A. Design Decisions and SEO:

You can’t make everyone happy. So try distinguishing between visitors and users. Everyone who comes to your website, willing or unwillingly are visitors but who comes intentionally, is your target users primarily. So we must keep maximum knowledge of them. You need to determine your users’ needs, choices, likes and dislikes. Your website must give confidence to the surfer that your firm is the one out of many to be trusted to give them what they need. And this starts with:

1. Website layout (fluid/fixed):

It’s possible to make a page layout “stretch” to fit the width of any screen, also fit for hand held/mobile devices. So-called fluid layouts ensure that space on bigger screens is not wasted, while on smaller screens the page contracts fluidly to fit within the window. So you end up targeting every visitor independent of its browser size and type. Website background color, contrast, every graphic used, plays an equally important role.

2. Good and relevant website content:

If your pages contain good, relevant, useful content, search engines will be more likely to rank your page higher for relevant searches. Good content will encourage more sites to link to your pages, thereby further increasing your search engine ranking.

It’s also good to update your content regularly. Visitors like fresh content, so they will visit your site more often. This ultimately results in more traffic.

3. Wise selection of Keywords:

Think about what you ultimately want visitors to do on your site (for your conversion goals), then find out what keywords people search for when they want to achieve those goals. Use tools such as Google Analytics to see which key-phrases result in the most goal conversions. Avoid 1-word (or possibly even 2-word) key-phrases that have thousands of competitive sites in the search results. Instead, use tools such as Wordtracker and the AdWords Keyword Suggestion tool to find relevant niche keyphrases with high search volume and low competition.

Make sure you’ve used your keywords in the following text blocks (these are in rough order of importance, most important first):

a) The title tag

b) The h1 and h2 headings in the page

c) Link text (in links within the page, and in links from other pages)

d) The page URL

e) Image alt text

f) Bold and italicized text

Also, make sure your description and keywords tags (must be without duplicates) aren’t too long — they should be 1 or 2 lines of text.

4. Get other sites linking to yours:

Most search engines rank sites more highly if they’re linked to by other well-respected sites. Getting links from other high-quality sites can be a challenge.

Here are some tips:

a) Writing good content is one of the best strategies to encourage inbound links.

b) A “link to this page” function on each page of your site makes it easy for other webmasters and bloggers to link.

c) If the site in question has useful content relevant to your readers, go ahead and link to that site from your own pages. This in itself might encourage a link back!

B. Website Performance:

Your website performance is always correlated to user’s performance, which primarily includes:

a) Time to complete a desired task on your website (directly proportional)

b) Number of errors made to complete the task (indirectly proportional)

Listed below are parameters to optimize user’s performance:

1. First time gratification:

As a continuation of first point. When a visitor first land on your site, the look of your site design can influence the visitor’s decision to stay or leave (resulting on lower or higher bounce rate respectively). So it must have an important appeal, packaging, communication for the user. In other words, a professional, appropriate design lends an air of authority, inspiring confidence in the visitor and encouraging them to explore your site further.

2. Rule of 2 seconds:

It says none of the user will be waiting for 2 sec to find information (what is this all about? Ah! This is what I’m looking for), if he traverses from one page to another, mind should be able to register what is site is all about. Where should I go to accomplish my task? So a page load in 2 sec with relevant content is a must. Webpagetest and Gtmetrix get us a helping hand for this (check them out!).

3. Rule of 3 clicks:

We should always try to minimize the number of clicks to accomplish the. It should not be more than 3 steps for payment. It needs to be very logical if beyond three clicks, if transaction is easy and within 3 clicks it really works.

4. KISS (keep it simple stupid) Rule :

Critical aspect of any website , info which you represent through your website, should be contextual, try to reduce number of words as much as possible. Simplify as much as possible, flows screen layout, content aspect, space, color contrast, should not look too complicated to eyes. No one will like to read about your exaggerated products and services. Content should be highly optimized. Need to use same vocabulary which user uses. (“relevant” instead of “germane”).

C. Analyse your Website

It’s important to track your site’s SEO performance so that you can see if your efforts are paying off. Make use of the many free analysis tools out there, including:

Yahoo! Site Explorer — lets you find out detailed search-engine-related info on each page of your site, including the most popular pages and the inbound links to each page.

Google Webmaster Tools — gives you all sorts of details about how Google sees your site, such as problems crawling your pages and suggestions for how to improve your HTML.

Google Analytics — Reports on vital traffic data such as visitors, page views, traffic sources, keywords, and lots more. Also lets you set up goals so you can see how well your SEO campaigns are performing.

SEO Book— offers a large range of free, Web-based SEO tools, many of which give you useful information about how your site is faring in the search results.

D. Keep updated of the latest SEO news

Search engine algorithms change constantly, and it pays to keep up to date with the latest changes and SEO strategies. The following SEO sites are well worth bookmarking or subscribing to:

Matt Cutts’ blog — Matt is a Google engineer, and in his blog he frequently discusses the latest changes at Google that can affect SEO.

Sphinn is a social bookmarking site for SEO topics. Great for finding out what’s new and hot in the world of SEO.

SEO Book features a comprehensive, paid SEO training program, a regularly-updated blog, and some handy free SEO tools such as keyword suggester and rank checkers.

Search Engine Watch is a huge SEO resource, including articles and white papers on SEO and SEM (search engine marketing), as well as some busy SEO forums.

6th March 2012 we started our journey and The CeBIT 2012 opens up with Thomas Reiter (ESA-Director) & Angela Merkel (German Chancellor) speaking to André Kuipers – live connection to space station ISS and it was truly an astonishing show.

This year the theme of the webciety area was different and our booth J28 along with others in this web area had a black theme which makes it look beautiful.

We were into CeBIT as an exhibitor for the 1st time and we showcase our products which were liked and appreciated by so many people. We distributed DreamzTech Goodies for everyone who visited our booth and you know what…we were running short every day.

We were right opposite to Google Plus who was promoting their new features on web sharing (circles, hangouts and messenger). It was nice to meet the team of Google Plus who encouraged us and invited us to take Photos in their photo booth also. Brazil was the official partner this year so it was great to know the opportunities and offers from this South American country.

Never felt how the 5 days flew away discussing our products to business peoples, learning about their problems, understanding new ventures. The arena had such remarkable liveliness that helped us to reach people and to meet new people each day.

11th march, the event officially closes with lots of promises and expectations. We party hard till midnight which was much worth after the completion of the event.

In a round up I can say it was a great experience for us, we love the conferences, energy of people starting from the Booth electricians to different booth members. Great to know, share our views and experiences with different people whom we meet.

This is another useful plugins of Mozilla for Web Developer. If you want to see the colors used in a website then Colorzilla add-on is the best solution. It shows the colors in RGB format and hex.ColorZilla is a Firefox add-on which integrates a number of color-related analysis tools with your browser. The Eyedropper feature displays the RGB numbers, corresponding hexadecimal code, X/Y axis location, as well as the CSS properties of any specific pixel that you place your mouse cursor on. An advanced Color Picker not only allows for standard RGB and hex but also includes hue, saturation, and value (HSV) color space components.

The Screengrab icon lives in the bottom right of your browser and to me looks like a yellow square edged in blue. Click the icon and “save” or “copy” the “complete page”, “visible portion”, “selection” or “window” to create your file or add an image to an open document.

By this tool we can easily trace out the why the particular page is taking so much time to load.YSlow gives you constant access to this type of information right within Firefox, and provides you some insight into possible reasons why a page is taking too long to load.YSlow is that it depends on Firebug so install Firebug before installing YSlow; otherwise, YSlow will not run.

At a glance YSlow gives you three pieces of information: a grade, page size, and load time.

YSlow’s web page analysis is based on 13 identified basic rules that affect web page performance. We can filter the results by Content, CSS, Cookie, Images, Javascript etc. So by this tool we can analyze the page load time and easily resolved the error.

Like every year it was a day of colors. We here in DreamzTech celebrated the festival of Holi with fun and lots of colors. We were greeted with a touch of different colors and wishing a very happy and colorful year ahead.

As the day progresses, in the evening, we played with colors and tried to paint everyone with colors of love and togetherness. Following a very traditional dress code, everyone started looking really great.

Hola! There was a contest going on for the best dressed man and woman. Though I didn’t win the contest but cheerfully greeted the members who grabbed the winning gifts. It was real fun going on throughout in the both DreamzTech offices which made my day really good.

The Photo session followed by a round of snacks, sweets and drinks brought a fantastic end to the celebration.

Publishing an ad on the social networking website Facebook is one of the best opportunities on the Internet for targeted advertising to more than 700 million potential customers. Because Facebook users provide information about their age, gender, location and interests, you can target your ads directly to the demographic you want to reach. E-marketer has predicted a 50% increase in advertising spend on Facebook for 2012.

Facebook Ads come in two types: Premium and Marketplace.
Premium Ads are reserved for those companies that have lots of money to spend — at least $10,000 monthly.

For the rest of us, there are Marketplace Ads, which can cost as little as $1.00 per day. These ads are appearing in the right-hand column on pages throughout the site.  Facebook Ads allow merchants to advertise either a purpose within Facebook such as a Page, Event, separate website. Now Facebook introduces new type of ads i.e Sponsored Stories. This type of ads is showing in the User’s News Feed but this facility only belongs to the Premium Merchant Ads Vendor.

Step I : First make sure you have google account, and logged into Google, We are using our gmail id to demonstrate the process. 

Step II : If you are not logged in. Please open the link into browser http://plus.google.com/pages/create. Login with the existing gmail account. After the login choose your organizational type from the categories or select "Other". 

Step III : Enter the basic info for your organization like page name, Website, Category etc. decide on an age limit for viewing content, agree with the terms and conditions and then click "Create." 

Step IV : After entering the Organizational information, here you can customize your page. You can set your tag line and profile photo and continue.

Step V : If you want then you can share your new Google+ page with anyone in your own circles. This is not the mandatory process to the user, you can do it later. 
Step VI : Click "Finish" and you’re done. You are taken directly to your Google+ page and start to sharing updates, photos etc. 

Step VII : You can add a badge to your organization’s Web site that links to your Google+ page easily. Just click the link under "Connect your website” then choose a badge style. Copy the whole JavaScript code from the textbox and add it to your site. 

Step VIII : You can also add a +1 button to your site so visitors can recommend your site and share it on Google+. It’s similar to adding the badge.

jQuery is not a language but it is a well written JavaScript code. It is a fast and concise JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development.

Do I need to refer jQuery file both in Master page/base page/template page and content page

No, master page/base page/ template page basically helps to create consistent layout for the page in the application. In case you have referred the jQuery file in master page/base page/ template page that cause rendering the file in the browser, you do not need to refer jQuery file the content page again.

In summary, there should not be more than one <script> tag with jQuery file reference in the source code of the rendered web page in the browser.

What is the difference between jQuery-x.x.x.js and jQuery.x.x.x-min.js

In terms of functionality, there is no difference between the jQuery-x.x.x.js and jQuery-x.x.x-min.js (also called minified version). However this can play a vital role in the performance of the web page.

How it affects the performance?

jQuery-1.4.4.js file size is 178 KB as against its minified version jQuery-1.4.4-min.js that is only 76.7 KB in size. So when your page loads in the client’s browser if you are not using minified version, it loads 178 KB file that takes more time to load than 76.7 KB.

Which version of jQuery file should be used

In most of the recent releases so far, the core functionality of jQuery remains same however some cooler and better features are added. Ideally you should use the latest jQuery files available on the jQuery.com website.
